Nursing school entrance exam
TEAS Practice Test: A Full-Length Practice Exam for the ATI TEAS 7
Practice Exam 1 is a full-length TEAS practice test: 170 questions in four separately timed sections, 209 minutes in all, the counts and timing of the TEAS 7. You get a score for each section and content area and an explanation for every question. Practice Exam 1 is free, with no sign-up.
A short practice session
20-minute TEAS mini-tests
Keep reading, math, science and English in your routine with one mixed test.
Choose from 50 levels, with 20 questions in each. Each test includes reading, mathematics, science, and English and language usage. Reading passages stay with their questions. This short mix uses a shared clock, rather than the full TEAS section timers.
Submit your answers to see explanations and a subject breakdown. Your level path and dashboard show completed levels, practice XP and coverage of unique questions. Questions reuse this site's bank and may recur; levels record practice, not an exam-readiness estimate. Level 1 of each exam is always free, with no sign-up.
Full-length test
Take a full-length TEAS practice exam
Each practice exam runs the whole test in the TEAS section order. Set aside about four hours: you open each section when you are ready, and its clock starts then. To practise one timed section at a time, untick the others on the start screen; the real TEAS has you take them all.
Section practice
Practice by section
Practice sets for one section at a time, on the same kind of screen, with every answer explained. Start with the section your Practice Exam 1 results rank lowest.
Test format
TEAS 7 format: sections, questions and time
The TEAS 7 has 170 questions in 209 minutes, in four sections that always come in the same order. Of those questions, 20 are unscored pretest items spread through the sections, and you cannot tell which ones they are.
- Questions
- 170
- 150 scored, 20 unscored
- Testing time
- 209 min
- Each section timed on its own
- Sections
- 4
- Always in the same order
- Break
- 10 min
- Optional, after Mathematics
| Section | Questions | Minutes | Time per question | Content areas |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Reading | 45 | 55 | About 73 seconds | Key ideas and details; Craft and structure; Integration of knowledge and ideas |
| Mathematics | 38 | 57 | About 90 seconds | Numbers and algebra; Measurement and data |
| Science | 50 | 60 | About 72 seconds | Human anatomy and physiology; Biology; Chemistry; Scientific reasoning |
| English and Language Usage | 37 | 37 | About 60 seconds | Conventions of standard English; Knowledge of language; Using language and vocabulary to express ideas in writing |
You can move freely inside a section until you submit it; after that it is closed, and time left over does not carry over. The optional 10-minute break comes after Mathematics. Texas State Technical College's guide lists four ways to sit the same exam: online with ATI's remote proctor, online with a school's, in person at a school, or at a PSI testing center. Some schools accept only one of them: since April 20, 2026 Broward College takes only exams sat at its own testing centers, and Mt. San Antonio College only those its nursing department proctors. Check which format your program accepts before you register.

Test day
TEAS test day rules worth practicing with
A practice test is most useful when it feels like the real sitting. These are the rules schools' testing pages give for the TEAS, at home or in person; where one school's rule is shown, check your own testing site's.
| Rule | On the TEAS | In Practice Exam 1 |
|---|---|---|
| Calculator | A basic four-function calculator built into the test; no calculator of your own | A basic on-screen calculator in every section |
| Scratch paper | Set by the testing site: one clean sheet and a pen or pencil in Macomb Community College's remote sessions; paper from the proctor, handed back at the end, at North Central Texas College | Use one blank sheet |
| Section order | Reading, Mathematics, Science and English and Language Usage | The same order |
| Going back | Free inside a section until you submit it; closed after that | The same rule |
| Break | One optional 10-minute break after Mathematics, without your personal items | An optional 10-minute break screen after Mathematics, with a countdown; end it early or let it run out |
| ID | A current, government-issued photo ID; the name on it must match your registration | Not needed |
| Length of the day | 209 minutes of testing; North Central Texas College allows four hours for the sitting | 209 minutes of testing, plus the breaks you take |

Content
What each TEAS section covers
Each TEAS section is split into smaller content areas (sub-content areas, in the exam's terms), each with a fixed number of scored questions, which schools' TEAS guides publish. Practice Exam 1 also spreads each section's unscored share over its areas, so it has all 170 questions and each area gets a few more than the TEAS's scored count.

Question formats
TEAS question types, and how they appear here
Most TEAS questions are standard multiple choice. The rest use one of four other formats, and every question is scored right or wrong, with no partial credit.
| Format | On the TEAS | In Practice Exam 1 |
|---|---|---|
| Multiple choice | Four options and one correct answer. Some questions include a chart, an exhibit or a graphic. | Four options, one correct: 131 of 170 questions |
| Multiple select | Four or more options, more than one of them correct. The question says “select all that apply”, and every correct option must be chosen. | Select every correct option: 14 of 170 questions |
| Fill in the blank | You type the answer, a word or a number, with no options to choose from. | Type a number: 9 of 170 questions |
| Ordered response | You drag four to six options into the right order. | Put the options in order: 9 of 170 questions |
| Hot spot | You click the right part of an image that has two to five areas you can click. | Select the right words in a sentence: 7 of 170 questions |
In Practice Exam 1, 23% of the questions use a format other than standard multiple choice. A multiple-select or ordered question counts only when the whole answer is right, as on the TEAS, so do not count on part marks on either.

Method
How to use a TEAS practice test well
A practice test earns its time when it changes what you study next. Use it to find the gaps, not only to see a score.
- 01Read the content areasSkim the topics below so nothing on the test is new, and mark the subjects you have not studied since school.
- 02Take Practice Exam 1 under test conditionsOne sitting, the clock running, no notes and only the on-screen calculator. Take the optional break after Mathematics, where the TEAS offers one, and no other.
- 03Read every explanationRead the explanation for every question you missed and every one you guessed right. A lucky guess is a gap you have not found yet.
- 04Study your weakest section firstYour results rank the sections and content areas. Start with the lowest, and with the areas that carry the most questions.
- 05Fix your pacingKnow your time per question: about 73 seconds in Reading, about 90 seconds in Mathematics, about 72 seconds in Science and about 60 seconds in English and Language Usage. If a section ran out, practice it again against its clock.
- 06Test again near the dateClose to your exam date, sit a full-length test again under the same conditions to check your pace and your stamina over the whole sitting.
How long to prepare
Lee College's TEAS page passes on ATI's advice to allow at least six weeks of preparation. Western Technical College's library guide suggests at least one week for each of the four sections and lays out a six-week plan that takes them one at a time, each opened with a practice test.

Scoring
How your score here compares with the TEAS score report
Your results here are plain percentages. They show what to study next; they are not the TEAS's equated score, and they do not predict your TEAS score or preparedness level.
| The TEAS score report | Your results here | |
|---|---|---|
| Total | A total score from 0 to 100%, converted from the number correct by equating so that scores from different test forms compare, with your national and program percentile rank; given only when all four sections are taken in one sitting | The percentage correct of all 170 questions |
| Sections | A score for each section (the report calls them content areas), adjusted the same way, beside the national mean and the mean for your program type | The percentage correct in each section, and your weakest section |
| Areas inside a section | The number of items and the percentage answered correctly in each sub-content area, in the list of topics to review | The percentage correct in each content area, with the number right |
| Level | An academic preparedness level: Developmental, Basic, Proficient, Advanced and Exemplary | A short description of where you stand on this practice exam only, not a TEAS level |
| Unscored questions | 20 unscored questions do not count | Every question counts |
| Partial credit | None: each question is right or wrong | None: a question counts only when the whole answer is right |
| After the test | A list of topics to review, based on the questions you missed | An explanation for every question, with your answer and the correct one |
Do not hold a practice percentage against a cut score
Each school sets its own TEAS cut score, and TEAS scores are equated across test forms. A percentage from one practice exam is a different measure, so read it as a map of your gaps, not as a pass or fail for any program.
